SUNCAT PhD Student Daniela Marin Selected as One of the 30 Best Young Scientists in the World Working on Climate Change

Daniela Marin, a PhD candidate in Prof. Thomas F. Jaramillo’s lab at Stanford University, has been recognized as one of the world’s 30 most promising young scientists at the Inflection Award, the world’s first-ever award dedicated to celebrating early-career scientists working on solutions to climate change. Selected through a rigorous assessment process by a panel of 17 judges, representing leading institutions and organizations tackling the climate crisis, Daniela Marin stood out among 500+ applicants worldwide for their impressive research in hydrogen production using impure water sources and its potential to drive real-world impact. All 30 awardees were brought to Paris for an exclusive two-day event, where they had a firsthand learning experience with some of the most influential figures in climate science, investment, and policy. From the biggest names in climate tech venture capital to top executives at Breakthrough Energy, RMI, Quadrature Climate Foundation, and more, the program provided unparalleled access to the best minds in the field, equipping these young scientists with the tools and networks to scale their impact. Speaking about this recognition, Daniela Marin said: “This award has made us scientists feel like superstars, showcasing the impact we can have on the world through our work and drive. For first-generation students like me, success can often feel like an unknown territory. This award isn’t just mine, it belongs to my family, my community, and everyone who dreams beyond the limits.” The 2025 Inflection Award cohort comprises PhD students and graduates from the world’s top institutions, including MIT, Oxford, ETH Zurich, Stanford, and others. Each awardee is working on cutting-edge solutions to climate change across diverse sectors, from chemical engineering to geosciences, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in climate innovation. The award is organized by Marble, Europe’s only deeptech venture studio exclusively focused on climate, and proudly supported by Breakthrough Energy Fellows and the Quadrature Climate Foundation. Applications for the 2026 cohort will be announced soon, opening an opportunity for promising researchers from all corners of the globe to be recognized for their impactful research.
