Open Positions

Thermal Catalysis Post-doctoral Researcher

Job Description
A post-doctoral position is available at the SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis. The project will focus on experimental work in the area of thermal heterogeneous catalysis. In particular, the post-doctoral researcher will aim to achieve control over the morphology and composition of supported nanoparticle catalysts to understand fundamental catalytic processes at the atomic level for key energy-related chemical reactions, including but not limited to: alkane dehydrogenation, syngas to oxygenates and CO2 activation and conversion. The work will require the synthesis, testing and characterization of catalytic materials. The candidate will also be involved in the development of SUNCAT operando capabilities at SLAC National laboratory. The position is at the SUNCAT Center for Interface Science and Catalysis, a partnership between Stanford University and SLAC National Acceleratory Laboratory in Menlo Park, California, USA. The appointment is for 1 year with a possible extension of 1 year (1+1) based on successful research productivity and continued funding. SUNCAT values the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which enable excellence in research.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics and possess previous experience in catalytic materials testing using lab scale microreactors, ability in catalysts synthesis (e.g. impregnation, sol-gel, colloidal, hydrothermal) and be familiar with characterization techniques (e.g. XRD, infrared, TEM, XPS, surface area measurement, temperature-programmed techniques). The applicant is required to have good team skills and should possess the ability to handle and monitor several projects at the same time. Oral and written competency in the English language is essential.

Applications:
Individuals wishing to apply should provide the following:

  • A cover letter that states the applicant’s interest in the position and description of qualifications based on the credentials listed above.
  • A curriculum vitae that includes a list of publications
  • Contact information for 2-3 references
